03.04.2024
Indice

What to see in Tropea: the historic town centre

Tropea’s historic town centre is it's beating heart, characterised by its little streets and alleyways, the small arts and crafts workshops and so many places to stop off for a drink or to try out the local specialities.
Our advice is to walk around without a set plan - let yourselves be guided by the little streets of flowers, noble buildings, including the amazing Palazzo Toraldo, and splendid courtyards. Your itinerary when visiting Tropea cannot be without a look at the Norman Cathedral, dating back to the 12th Century, and the Museum of the Sea.

Tropea’s beaches

For those who ask what is the most beautiful beach in Tropea, the answer is very simple: Spiaggia dei Conigli. Located below the promontory on which the town stands, it is considered to be one of the nicest beaches in all of Italy. Other well-loved beaches, then, include Spiaggia della Rotonda, also known as the Little Rocks on the Sea, it is easy to walk to from the town centre.
Other fine beaches are Spiaggia del Cannone and Spiaggia di Isola Bella. To fully enjoy your beach visits, one of the most important parts of your trip to Tropea, why not stay at the VOI Le Muse Essentia, in a very handy position for reaching the local area and enjoying Tropea by night.

The Church of Santa Maria dell'Isola in Tropea

As you can tell from the name, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola is on a little island atop the sea and is one of the most charming places to visit in Tropea. You get there by climbing a 190-step staircase and the Sanctuary is Tropea’s jewel. It is home to the statue of the Madonna of Romania, the town’s protector, and is a place of pilgrimage for many believers. It is owned by the Abbazia of Montecassino and its location will leave your breathless. From here you can admire the surrounding coast and all of the historic town centre of Tropea - simply not to be missed.
