HAVE YOU ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT CALABRIA?

You can reach Calabria by car via the A2 Mediterranean Highway, which runs through Calabria and connects it with the rest of the country from north to south.

The fastest means is definitely by air with 3 airports available, Lamezia Terme, Crotone and Reggio Calabria. Another available means of transportation are the high-speed (HS) trains of Trenitalia and Italo, which connect the stations of Paola, Lamezia Terme, Reggio Calabria and Sibari with several Italian cities, including Milan, Turin, Verona, Bolzano, Rome and Naples.

Finally, Calabria can also be reached by ferries that arrive in Tropea and Reggio Calabria.

Calabria's beaches are a true paradise for sea and nature lovers. With nearly 800 kilometers of coastline, this region offers a variety of breathtaking landscapes.

Among the beaches not to be missed on the Tyrrhenian coast is definitely Tropea, one of Calabria's most precious gems, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful locations on the Coast of the Gods. Then there is Riaci beach, perfect for diving enthusiasts; Capo Vaticano, a paradise of crystal-clear waters; and Grotticelle, the ideal place for snorkeling enthusiasts.

On the Ionian coast, however, are legendary destinations such as Isola di Capo Rizzuto and Le Castella. Also not far from these beauties is Steccato beach in Cutro, which offers the perfect mix of tranquility and adventure for those who love windsurfing and kitesurfing, and Caminia beach, with its small bay surrounded by verdant hills.

Calabria's national parks are rich in nature, extraordinary views and evocative legends. A visit to the Sila Nature Park, an extraordinary place declared a World Heritage Site, is not to be missed. Inside is the nature reserve with the famous "giants" of Sila: majestic and picturesque trees.

Another historic and legendary destination is Dino Island: its underwater caves leave anyone who visits them speechless. For those who want to explore the nature and beauty of the oldest Calabria up close, they cannot miss the promontory of Capo Vaticano, where sea below fades into a thousand shades of blue, and the white sand bays are an incredible masterpiece. The Capo Rizzuto Natural Marine Protected Area will also allow you to discover the underwater beauty of Calabria, and will give you a thrilling view.

Finally, the Aspromonte National Park stretches in height, huge and impressive, and is full of breathtaking itineraries and views.

In Calabria, at various times of the year, one can witness various events and religious festivals in which folklore and religiosity are bound together in an original and fascinating whole. Some of Calabria's most famous events are concentrated in the summer period: the Palmi Varia, the Roccella Jazz Festival, and the Peperoncino Festival in Diamante.

Also not to be missed is the Onion Party, held in Tropea. In addition to this, there are countless traditional religious festivals and celebrations that take place throughout the region, often with processions and fireworks displays.

Calabrian cuisine has peasant origins and offers very tasty dishes indeed: 'nduja is definitely one of the most famous Calabrian products, a soft sausage with an intense, spicy flavor. It can be spread on bread and perhaps on top of good caciocavallo silano, a traditional cheese with an aromatic and delicate flavor. Another typical delicacy is definitely Crotone's smoked ricotta, made from whey and very white in color.

Impossible not to taste guanciale, with an intense and at the same time delicate flavor, used to prepare dishes such as pasta alla carbonara or simply accompanied by bread. And speaking of bread, that of Cerchiara is definitely a symbol of excellence and tradition of Calabria, compact and round in shape.

Among the first courses we find cold pasta with Calabrian pesto, ideal in summer, prepared with tomatoes, red peppers, ricotta and Tropea onions. Or lagane e cicciari, pasta with chickpeas, rosemary, garlic and chili peppers.

And for dessert? We are spoiled for choice, including sguta, mostaccioli, cuzzupe and many variations of nougat. Let's not forget Calabrian licorice, considered one of the best in the world!

Calabria is a place rich in traditions and there are many souvenirs you can take home to remember your vacation. Calabria's handicrafts have very ancient roots and bear witness to famous civilizations such as the Greeks and Byzantines: we can find work in terracotta or clay, which are based on the objects used by ancient Greek potters, such as jars and jugs, as well as statues and tablets.

Artistic ceramics, including Semirana masks, which since the past were meant to keep evil spirits away and are placed inside homes or on the roofs of houses. Culinary delicacies are also no less from cheeses to typical cold cuts.
