DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT ZANZIBAR?

Yes, as of October 1 to go to Zanzibar you must have travel insurance that covers the duration of your stay.

The insurance can be purchased exclusively from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation at the following link https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/ .

For Italian citizens, a passport with at least six months remaining validity and at least one free page is required. An entry visa is required and the visa application must be made online by accessing the "Tanzania Service Immigration Department" website https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa/. Alternatively, you can apply upon arrival at the airport in Tanzania (approximate cost Usd 50, cash payment recommended).

Given the variability of regulations, it is essential, before booking travel and before any movement between nations, to consult Viaggiaresicuri.it to find out about the ordinances governing movement between Italian regions and the regulations issued by foreign nations regarding entry.

The direct flight has a duration of about 8h.

You have to calculate two hours more than in Itala, one with daylight saving time.

The unit of currency is the Tanzanian Shilling, divided into 100 cents, 1 Euro is worth about 2500 Shillings. The Euro is accepted almost everywhere but in some cases it may be cheaper to pay in U.S. Dollars. We point out, however, that banknotes issued before 2006 are not accepted by banks, hotels, and public places.

Zanzibar enjoys excellent temperatures all year round except from April to July because of heavy rains.

All of Zanzibar's beaches, protected by coral reefs, are subject to the tidal phenomenon every 6 hours. The sea recedes causing a very long expanse of sand to emerge from which submerged beaches emerge, which you can discover by taking very long walks equipped with rubber shoes. Occasionally, due to sea currents, there may be seaweed on the beach, a natural phenomenon that resolves spontaneously.

Zanzibar offers an interesting variety of local handicrafts and antiques such as the famous wood-carved doors and chests; antique padlocks; "khangas," printed cotton sarongs; tinga-tinga, typical Tanzanian naif paintings; wood and soapstone carvings; sisal baskets; ebony carvings; and masks.

Zanzibar, known as the island of spices, offers spices of all kinds and for all tastes.

We also suggest Pemba honey, aromatic oils and vinegars, sandalwood powder excellent for cleansing the face, and traditional udi, a blend of aromas used by local women to perfume their clothes and bodies.

Famous are the traditional Zanzibarian trunks of Omani origin and the typical grandfather clocks, dating from the late 19th century, which should be sought exclusively in antique stores in the capital. Among the precious stones: rubies and tanzanite, a little-known stone found only in Tanzania. For those looking for an original souvenir, the characteristic and very ancient game of bao is recommended.

Some typical dishes such as:

  • UGALI WA MUHOGO: cassava porridge, made by drying and pulverizing the latter and cooking its flour together with rice. It is usually served with meat or fish cooked in a special curry or coconut milk-based sauce.
  • UGALI WA MAHINDI: white polenta made from cornmeal originally introduced from India and served with meat or fish.
  • WALI WA NAZI: rice boiled in coconut milk.
  • MASHELISHELI YA NAZI: fruit of the breadfruit tree cooked in coconut milk or fried. Eaten without salt.

  • AMBI: Strands of sugar.
  • NDIZI MBIVU: Sweet bananas cooked in coconut pulp and sugar.
  • VIPOPOO: Balls of flour and sugar fried in oil.

Visit to Stone Town: Stone Town, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, was the capital of the Sultanate of Zanzibar.

Spice Tour: Intense journey through the scents and flavors of Zanzibar, the Island of Spices.

Jozani Forest: Morning dedicated to nature and the wild side of the island. guided to Jozani Forest, home of the famous Zanzibar red monkeys, a cute endemic species existing only on this island.

Catamaran: Various excursions to explore the pristine sea surrounding the island.

Nakupenda & Prison Island: Aboard a dhow (typical boat) you will arrive at Prison Island, a place of slave imprisonment and currently a reserve for giant turtles, the naigazioen continues to sand bank a tongue of very white sand surrounded by ocean.
