Salento is pure magic, and those who have already been there tend to come back, because it is unique in its kind. Between Otranto, Lecce, Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca, there is a poetic atmosphere here, perfect for couples on holiday. Here, then, are a few ideas for organising a romantic get-away in Salento.
Where to go in Salento as a couple: useful recommendations
The most romantic locations in Puglia are definitely in Salento, especially along the coast, which boasts fable-like destinations.
At the top of the list of things to do is admire the sunset in Santa Maria di Leuca, the southernmost point of the region, in the area adjacent to the lighthouse. For morning people, it’s worth seeing the sunrise in Punta Palascia, right near Otranto. Here, the two seas, the Ionian and the Adriatico, embrace, and the magic created with the first light of dawn is a scene worthy of a film.
You’ll also find a dream-like atmosphere early in the morning on the coast of Salento, in Punta Prosciutto, or at the Due Sorelle Beach, in Torre dell’Orso. Please note: peace and quiet are guaranteed until 9 a.m. before the big crowds arrive, looking for somewhere to put down their beach towels and sunbeds.
Here, however, in this splendid region, it’s not just about the sea because a romantic get-away to Puglia might also include walking hand-in-hand through the historic centre of beautiful Otranto, characterised by its white stone houses or through the streets of Lecce elegant and refined with their Baroque golden colours.

Of course, good food is a certainty in Salento. Add to this, then, breathtaking views and elegant atmospheres: so now we have everything we need for a romantic meal in Puglia.
Try the “Lo scoglio” restaurant in Porto Cesareo, more specifically, on a little island right in the middle of a protected marine area. The atmosphere and food are sublime, and you can really enjoy the scents of the sea.
Another great restaurant is the famous “Lo scalo”, a real institution in these parts for fifty years now - enjoy a candlelit dinner with your partner here. It is very near Santa Maria di Leuca and is in an enchanting position: on a cliff overlooking the sea. The panorama, especially at sunset, is stunning, as is the menu.
Where to stay in Salento
Choosing a resort in Puglia on the sea is certainly a great start for ensuring a very relaxing holiday. In Salento, two of the most popular facilities are VOI Alimini Resort and VOI Daniela Essentia, immersed in green nature on one side and facing the sea on the other. They are just a few kilometres from the Bay of the Turks, an essential stop-off for anyone visiting these parts. Also, nearby we have the famous Torre dell’Orso beach, with its shallow waters and wonderful sand. And suppose you want to stop off for a frenetic discovery of Lecce, Otranto and nearby.
