03.04.2024
Indice

So much nature, sun and an amazing sea, with crystalline water and sandy seabeds. Calabria is definitely one of the favourite destinations of families travelling with children - every year, just so many come here.

There are beautiful beaches, a succulent culinary tradition and splendid towns to be visited in between your days on the beach.
Here, then, is a simple guide for discovering the places to visit in Calabria with the kids.

Calabria with the kids: where to go to the sea

There are almost 800 kilometres of coastline and several beaches ideal for little ones. The beaches in Calabria are known for their clean turquoise water and their composition: sometimes very fine sand, sometimes little pebbles sanded by the sea. Of the many, some of the beaches in the region are most loved by families.

The best beaches on the Tyrrhenian Sea

The beaches in the Praia a Mare and Baia di Riaci area offer breathtaking landscapes and are ideal for children.

The beach in Praia a Mare, in fact, has a Green Flag, which means paediatricians have considered it as a sea location with the right features for children. With its vast stretches of sand and pebbles, the blue sea and crystalline water sloping gently, it is perfect for enjoying days of relaxation and fun.

You simply cannot miss out on exploring Dino Island, easy to get to by boat, where you can visit sea grottoes, the old Fortress, ‘Torre di Fiuzzi’ Tower and ‘Rocca di Praia’ Castle.

Riaci beach is also perfect for kids, and also for those who love snorkelling, thanks to the white sand, the crystalline sea and the many grottoes and coves to explore. The rock walls surrounding the beach and the ‘Scoglio Grande’ Cliffs, an imposing formation of tuff, add a unique touch to this seaside paradise.

The best beaches on the Ionian Sea

The Ionian Sea side also offers lots of beaches which are ideal for holidays with the kids in Calabria. Soverato, Santa Caterina and Capo Rizzuto are all well worth a visit.

Soverato is actually known as the “pearl of the Ionian”, due to its turquoise water and extremely white sand. Santa Caterina, on the other hand, has both sand and pebbles, and enjoys a lovely little breeze, perfect on those humid days so frequent in the months of July and August.

Finally, Capo Rizzuto, which is located in a protected area, offers a spectacular natural landscape. Its beaches of fine sand and crystalline water are perfect for days relaxing by the sea.
