Your holidays in Calabria

Also known as “the toe of Italy’s boot”, Calabria is certainly a destination that will surprise you. To the north, the border is with Basilicata. To the south, the Calabrian territory extends almost almost touching Sicily: there are only a few kilometers to separate them, so much so that from the coasts of one you can see the other, and vice versa. Surrounding the region, however, are the waters of two of the beautiful seas that bathe Italy, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea. Calabria is a vast and varied land, where imposing mountains can reach the coasts and turn into enchanting beaches. Wild and uncontaminated nature, a millenary past and a rich and varied food and wine tradition: staying at the VOI Tropea Beach Resort, the VOI Le Muse Resort or the VOI Floriana Resort you can enjoy all the best of Calabria.

Calabria: 10 things to see

The Sila National Park

At various times of the year you can attend various religious events and festivals in which folklore and religiosity are linked into one. In the summer period in particular, the Varia di Palmi, the Roccella Jazz Festival, the Peperoncino Festival in Diamante and countless traditional festivals and religious festivals take place with processions and fireworks.

The Riace bronzes

Preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, the Riace bronzes are among the best-known sculptures in Italy, true masterpieces of Greek art of the classical age. A visit to Reggio Calabria cannot fail to include a stop in this museum, where other exciting finds from Magna Graecia are also kept.

The seafront of Reggio Calabria

With its succession of centuries-old palm trees, monuments, modern sculptures and historic buildings, this avenue was defined by the poet D’Annunzio “The most beautiful kilometer in Italy”. Indulge in relaxing walks and linger to admire beautiful sunsets, while a pleasant sea breeze caresses your skin.

Tropea

Tropea is an enchanting village on the Costa degli Dei, on the Tyrrhenian side of the region. Its Caribbean beaches have made it a very popular destination for seaside tourism, but to really get to know Tropea it is necessary to get lost in its characteristic streets and, of course, taste its sweet red onion.

The Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola

This imposing building, halfway between a church and a castle, stands on a small promontory overlooking the sea, not far from Tropea. From the mysterious and fascinating past, it seems like this Rock, originally, was an island inhabited by ascetic monks, who chose it as a refuge to live away from the rest of the world.

The Island of Dino

From the beach of the charming town of Praia a Mare, you can easily swim to the enchanting Dino Island, surrounded by exceptional turquoise waters. The island is covered with lush vegetation and is famous above all for its spectacular underwater caves.

The Fortress of Le Castella

In the magical coastal town of Le Castella, in the province of Crotone, there is an imposing Aragonese fortress erected in the middle of the sea. To connect it to the mainland, there is only a long and narrow path that crosses wonderful crystal clear waters.

The Cattolica di Stilo

Located to the south-east of the Calabrian peninsula, Stilo is on the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with a beautiful, perfectly preserved historic center. Here, in the 10th century, the Byzantine monks built the Cattolica: an original church characterized by five domes, which opens onto a suggestive landscape of rocks and vegetation.

Pentedattilo

This small village of Greek-Roman origins is nestled in the Aspromonte mountains, at the foot of a rock with a particular shape that resembles a hand. Completely abandoned since 1971, today Pentedattilo is a ghost town that has become a suggestive tourist destination.

Taste the Pizzo truffle

A dark chocolate heart enclosed in a casket of chocolate and hazelnut ice cream: this delicious delight is the first ice cream in Europe to have received the I.G.P.

Enjoy a stroll through the narrow streets of Pizzo and let yourself be refreshed by this sweet temptation.
